Bennie and Ethel moved to Fort Walton Beach, FL (FWB) in 1944. Bennie was a native of Thompson, GA, a veteran of World War I, a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 171, and the Ladies’ Aid Missionary Society.
Ethel was born in Enterprise, AL on October 1, 1915 where she grew up among family and friends during her youth years. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Marlin Nance who preceded her in death. To this couple one child was born, Robert Lee Nance. She later married Mr. Bennie “Daddy” Butler who also preceded her in death.
After relocating to Fort Walton Beach, FL Bennie and Ethel joined Beulah First Baptist Church where they both served faithfully until their death. Bennie was a Deacon at Beulah First Baptist Church and was active in the FWB African American Mid-town community.

Their son Robert Lee Nance attended Brooks School and Carver-Hill High School, Crestview, FL. Robert currently lives in Oakland, CA. The Butlers lived a 21 Germany Drive (Harbeson Avenue NE) before moving to a new home at 234 Santa Rosa Street SW, FWB where Ethel lived until she passed.
Bennie “Baddy” Butler passed on January 17, 1971 and Ethel Lee Butler passed on May 15, 2015, age 98. They were laid to rest next to each other, Beal Memorial Cemetery, Fort Walton Beach, FL.
